About Me

Chuck Powers, MA, MA, LMFT

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

Yep, the guy in that picture is me. My name is Chuck, and I have a really long rags-to-riches-to-rags story (Not really. I stole that from a movie). What’s most important is I’ve experienced some stuff—made some real-life mistakes. Learned. Sometimes slowly. Did go to school a couple of times to learn some more stuff. And, I’m still learning literally every day. Actually, I love learning.

Learning isn’t always fun even when it’s necessary. Two of my bigger life lessons emerged from an early divorce and one near-divorce. Divorces are awful and painful and tragic and gross, and I don’t recommend them at all. They hurt a lot of people–including ourselves. Intensely. Divorce sucks–like soul-level sucking. Truly, it’s a terrible experience. Avoid to the degree you can at all costs! My divorce taught me that I really didn’t really want to do that again.

Given that, I still nearly divorced after 17 years of my second marriage. Avoiding that changed my world completely. My wife and I didn’t divorce, so we’ve been married 25 years now (2022). Our marriage is better now than it ever was before! My wife agrees! Hah! The truth is I needed that experience to start learning how to be married. Go figure!

My NEAR-DIVORCE, while my wife and I were still picking up the pieces, led me to return to school, and I came away with a master’s in professional counseling at Texas State University. I graduated with a focus on couples, marriages, and families. My second career was born. And, here I am.

SO, that’s a little about me and what I do and why. I don’t hide in session, so you’ll get to hear a little bit about me and my experiences along the way when it suits. For anyone who is wondering, I make a point NOT to sound clinical. I really don’t think very many people are looking for that. I notice that on quite a number of other therapy websites, and it always seems a little cold. I’m happy to answer clinical questions as they come up, but for the most part I want to just be the regular guy talking like normal people talk.

I’m sincerely looking forward to meeting you. Click HERE and request an appointment. It’s intentional. It’s one of the best investments in YOU that you will ever make. Let’s get started!

After-Thought-Side-Note-But-Probably-Pretty-Important-For-Legal-Reasons:

I blog, so you will find blogs and maybe some other comments on the site. I hope to provide some useful information (hope you think so too), but as a disclaimer, the information herein is not intended to replace therapy or constitute specific advice in any way. There is simply too much variation in all of our stories to capture everyone’s situation in a single blog. Having said that, I am a licensed Marraige & Family Therapist, and I read a lot of research on some topics. Probably works as more like what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules (Captain Barbossa, The Curse of the Black Pearl) until we arrange something official.
